Sandy’s outer bands beating local beaches

SINGER ISLAND, Fla. —

The heavy bands of wind and rain are slamming through coastal Palm Beach County Thursday night.

With no major structural damage to report yet, many visitors and residents are braving the conditions to see the storm for themselves.

Waves were seen crashing over the rocks on the south end of Singer Island.

Further north in Jupiter, park rangers used caution tape to close the the entrance to the jetty near the Jupiter Inlet.

Waves are crashing over the concrete walkway there, and rangers say its just too dangerous as this storm passes.

County officials are still deciding what to do at the Juno Beach Pier.

Pier workers are concerned planks from the deck could lift off if the waves get too high and too rough.
