Glades Central senior Greg Beckford OK after motorcycle accident

From a room at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, Glades Central senior Greg Beckford pondered the question coming from the other end of the telephone.

“We’re in the game,” he responded.

That was Beckford’s answer Friday morning when his coach, Roosevelt Blackmon, asked him for a message to his teammates. It was his way of saying he’s OK after a motorcycle accident last Sunday, his declaration he’ll be there in spirit during Friday’s Muck Bowl at Pahokee.

“I told him we’re cheering for you to get well,” Blackmon told The Post. “I tried to cheer him up by telling him he’s got to be at practice on Monday.”

It’s unclear if Beckford, a 6-foot, 240-pound offensive tackle, will play again this season. It’s also unclear exactly what happened when he was injured.

Correcting information previously provided to The Post, Blackmon said Beckford was riding a motorcycle, not a four-wheeler, in LaBelle in a group that included his father. According to Blackmon, Beckford suffered no broken bones. The coach did not know if Beckford suffered a concussion.

It is also unclear if the incident was a traffic accident or a crash on private property. A police report was not immediately available.

What is known: the Raiders, looking to win their fifth straight Muck Bowl, will keep No. 52 in their thoughts tonight.

“The kids know he’s not here, so they’re going to play a little extra harder,” Blackmon said.
