Jupiter man charged with vehicular homicide in 2011 crash that killed his brother

JUPITER, Fla. – A 36-year-old Jupiter man was arrested Friday morning on charges of vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter in the 2011 car crash that killed his brother, a passenger of the vehicle, according to a media release from the Jupiter Police Department.

According to the release, on the night of October 9, 2011, Mario Pizano crashed his car at the entrance of the Egret Landing community on Central Boulevard . The car burst into flames with both Pizano and 39-year-old Jose Pizano trapped inside.

Police officers used fire extinguishers to put out most of the fire until Palm Beach County Fire Rescue crews arrived and extinguished the fire..

Jose Pizano was pronounced dead at the scene. Mario Pizano was flown St. Mary’s Medical Center.

A police investigation determined that Mario Pizano was negligent and that he drove the vehicle in a reckless manner. Toxicology results revealed he was under the influence with a blood-alcohol level of 0.149.

He was arrested and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail. Jail records show he was released around 3:30 on supervised recognizance.
