Two dead after Gold Coast Highway crash

Two people have been killed in a crash on the Gold Coast Highway this morning.

Police said it was understood a car attempted to turn from the highway onto Fifth Avenue at Palm Beach about 9.50am.

The car collided with a maxi taxi.

The two people in the car, believed to be elderly, were taken to Gold Coast Hospital with life-threatening injuries however they died in hospital.

Police said the driver of the maxi taxi was not hurt.

Forensic crash unit is investigating and the southbound lanes of the highway are being diverted around the crash site.
