A Northwest Side man has been charged with DUI after a passenger in his car died when he lost control and crashed on the Kennedy Expressway over the weekend, police said.
Police say Pavlo Lulak’s blood-alcohol level was about three times over the legal limit of .08. Killed in the accident was Maryana Holovii, 23, of west suburban Medinah.
Lulak, 24, of the 2800 block of North Newcastle Avenue, was driving a blue 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer when he hit two other vehicles in the northbound local lanes of the Kennedy near Armitage Avenue around 4:20 a.m. Sunday, police said.

The Lancer hit a barrier, shot back into traffic and hit two other vehicles, according to Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Jason LoCoco. An SUV veered down an off-ramp and hit a wall.
Holovii was one of seven passengers in the car, and many of them were sitting on the laps of others, according to a police report. She was in the back seat, behind the driver.
Holovii was pronounced dead at 6:45 a.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
None of the other injuries were serious. LoCoco said.
