A 69-year-old man is dead and his wife and two others are in the hospital
after two vehicles collided not far from their homes in suburban Boynton
Beach Sunday night, according to information released by the Palm Beach
County Sheriff’s office Monday afternoon.
Steven V. Taitel of suburban Boynton Beach died in surgery at Delray Medical
Center this morning at 4:05 a.m., about six hours after the crash.
Karen Taitel, 68, is in critical condition with multiple injuries. The couple
were riding in a four-door Infiniti sedan with another couple. Their driver,
Jack H. Weinstein, a 73-year-old also living in suburban Boynton Beach,
sustained minor injuries, but Joyce Weinstein, 67, remains in the hospital
in serious condition, according to the crash report issued Monday.
The driver in the minivan they collided with, Edith Bette Lewis, 72, is also
in serious condition, Sheriff’s officials report.
The crash happened at 10:23 p.m. Sunday on Lyons Road north of Boynton Beach
Boulevard at the entrance of the Cobblestone Creek community, Barbera said.
The Infiniti with the two couples inside was northbound on Lyons, when Lewis,
driving alone in the southbound Dodge Caravan, attempted to turn left into
her neighborhood and turned into the path of the Infiniti, the incident
The Infiniti hit the Caravan on the passenger side, sending the minivan
spinning. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue crews took both drivers and the
three passengers to Delray Medical Center, where Steven Taitel later died.
The crash remains under investigation. Any witnesses to the crash are asked to
