Fort Lauderdale woman killed in Boca Raton crash – Sun

A Fort Lauderdale woman was fatally injured in a crash in Boca Raton over the weekend.

Carol I. Velasco, 52, was declared dead at Delray Medical Center Sunday, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said.

Two westbound cars traveling in the inside lane on West Palmetto Park Road were struck just after 11 p.m. Saturday near Toledo Road by a Hyundai Genesis driven by Mark Douglas Schneider, 22, of Boca Raton, PBSO said.

A Nissan Pathfinder driven by Sherri Silver Reed, 59, of Boca Raton, was sideswiped but she was not injured, the sheriff’s office said.

Velasco’s 2010 Hyundai sedan was struck from behind and its left side crashed with a tree, according to the agency. Her adult male passenger who was not identified was not conscious when he was taken to the hospital Saturday, PBSO spokeswoman Teri Barbera said.

He was in serious condition Monday, according to Barbera.

Schneider had minor injuries, PBSO said.

No one was arrested, PBSO spokeswoman Teri Barbera said Monday about the investigation that is continuing.
