HENDRY COUNTY -
Hendry County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Lazy Springs ATV Park, off of State Road 82, after receiving reports that a helicopter had crashed Sunday morning.
When deputies arrived on scene they found the pilot, 60-year-old Donald Purden, of Fort Myers, conscious and alert.
Purden appeared to be suffering from what were believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
He was taken to a local hospital.
Witnesses reported the pilot had attempted to land when it began to auto-rotate.
The helicopter lifted approximately 30-40 feet into the air and after losing power, the aircraft dropped to the ground.
The crash is being investigated by FAA.
