A 27-year-old man was sentenced last week to eight years in prison after he pleaded guilty to DUI manslaughter in a suburban Boca Raton crash that killed a motorcyclist in March of 2011.
On July 26, Frank. J. Barrucco, of suburban Boca Raton, pleaded guilty to the DUI charge and to possession of cocaine, the Palm Beach County County Sheriff’s Office said. He was adjudicated guilty and, in addition to the eight-year prison sentence, a judge also ordered that his driver’s license be permanently revoked.
Authorities said Barrucco was driving a 2005 Hyundai Sonata the evening of March 18, 2011, when he caused a crash that killed 57-year-old Steven C. Fischer of Boynton Beach.
The crash happened near Palmetto Park Road and Beracasa Way.
According to sheriff’s investigators, Barrucco was traveling south on Beracasa Way approaching Palmetto Park Road and Fischer was approaching Beracasa while traveling west on Palmetto Park Road. Barrucco pulled into Fischer’s lane of travel, the sheriff’s office said.
Fischer swerved to try to avoid a collision, but was struck from the side and ejected from his motorcycle. He was taken to Delray Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
