CLEVELAND, Ohio — Joseph J. Marino, 23, of Parma, was killed in an accident Saturday on I-65 in Autauga County, Alabama.
The Alabama Department of Public Safety reported that Marino was a passenger in a 2001 Ford Escape that collided with a 2002 Freightliner truck. He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, according to the report. Marino was taken to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery where he died from his injuries.
Alabama state troopers said the car was driven by Nader Hassen, 22, and contained three other passengers besides Marino. All were transported to a hospital for treatment of their injuries.
A social media report from kentwired.com identified Marino as a Kent State University student.
The university issued a statement Sunday night saying that it could not confirm the report that a KSU student had been killed in the accident.
Two Ohio State University students — Courtney Miller, 21, of Niles, and Brittney Gallagher, 21, of Willoughby — were killed March 16 in the Florida Panhandle after their car collided with a pickup truck. They, and two other OSU students were returning from a spring-break trip to Panama City Beach.
