Police urge holidaymakers to drive safe

Traffic is starting to build up in the North Island as Easter
holidaymakers return home.

Police say there are heavy build ups for both north and
south-bound traffic on State Highway 1 between Waikanae and
Otaki.

They say south-bound traffic is heavy but flowing freely between
Paraparaumu and Porirua.

Meanwhile, two people have been injured in a car accident on
State Highway 2 near Waihi.

Emergency services said the car went over the bank at Waikino
Gorge, crashing onto rocks by the river.

Both people have serious injuries and will be airlifted to
hospital from Paeroa.

Another two people have been injured in a crash in the Catlins,
south of Dunedin.

One of the crash victims was flown to Dunedin Hospital with
suspected spinal injuries.

The crash between two cars happened at Papatowai around
midday.
