PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. –  A police chase that started in Riviera Beach ended near Palm Beach Gardens in a crash that injured an officer early Monday morning.

The suspect, a 28-year-old felon, is in jail.

It all started about 3 a.m. in Riviera Beach and ended along the Beeline Highway just south of PGA Boulevard.

Riviera Beach Police report they spotted a red Camaro that the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office had been looking for since Sunday. Deputies suspect the red Camaro was used in an armed robbery.

Riviera Beach Police had seen the car on Saturday and ended a pursuit when it reached unsafe speeds. Knowing the car’s involvement in a robbery, they maintained the pursuit early Monday morning.

Riviera Beach Police tried to stop the car on Blue Heron Boulevard, that’s when the driver took off and police started chasing the car.

Police chased the car to North Palm Beach, then down Interstate 95 South before the driver took Blue Heron to the Beeline Highway, where the car crashed with two police cruisers.

The whole thing backed up traffic this morning.

During the chase, one police officer was injured and two Riviera Beach police cruisers were damaged. The Riviera Beach Police officer had minor injuries.

Christopher McMillian was arrested on charges of grand theft auto, reckless fleeing to elude police, aggravated assault and aggravated battery on a police officer with a motor vehicle, resisting an officer without violence, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed firearm.Riviera Beach Police officer injured in chase that ends near Palm Beach Gardens
