Woman killed after being struck by minivan outside Boynton CVS

A woman was killed Friday afternoon after she was struck and pinned beneath a minivan that crashed into a CVS pharmacy, city police said.

The deceased woman was identified this evening as Mary Elizabeth Bonnel, 76, of Boynton Beach. Police say that she was struck by Marion Zeiler, 78, also of Boynton Beach.

Traffic homicide investigators determined that Zeiler lost control of her 2008 Chrysler Town and Country minivan while attempting to exit the parking lot. No criminal charges are expected, Boynton Beach police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater.

The crash occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. outside the CVS store at 133 N. Congress Ave., just south of Boynton Beach Boulevard. Bonnel was walking on the sidewalk near the store when she was struck, Slater said.

Zeiler then crashed the minivan into a wall at the store. Bonnel was pinned under the van and died at the scene. Zeiler was taken to the hospital with neck and back pain. There were no injuries among the people in the store, Slater said.

Crime-scene tape surrounded a large section of the parking lot as police examined the scene.

One woman, who did not want to give her full name, said she had finished shopping at the CVS minutes before the crash and heard the incident as she was driving away.

“I saw everybody running. I thought it was a gunshot,” she said. “I drove off and I left the plaza. … I saw so many police vehicles headed this way.”

The woman said there was a group of kids sitting on a nearby bench when she left the left store.

“That could have been all of them,” she said. “It’s scary. … It could have been me walking through the door.”
